Secondary 2
Secondary Math 2 Pearson
Welcome to Secondary Math II
This year we will expand our knowledge in the field of mathematics as we learn about quadratics, functions, statistical analysis, trigonometry and geometry!
Instructor: Natalie Pearson Room: 213
Email: [email protected]
Office Hours: A-DAYS ONLY! 7:15-7:40 AM, 2:15-2:45 PM, other by appointment

Please note I only teach A Days!! This means the day that you have math is the only day that I am at the school. Parents: email will be the best way to get a hold of me. Since I teach part-time, I share my classroom with another teacher which can make phone messages difficult. I understand this will require some forethought and planning on your part. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Required Materials
3-ring binder
Paper
Scientific calculator- THIS IS A MUST! You will not survive our trig unit without one.
PENCIL
Classroom Expectations
The obvious objective of this class is to learn mathematics. With that in mind the following are rules/expectations for our class to keep us focused.
-Be Prepared! Come to class with homework complete and materials needed for class.
-Respect your TOES (Teacher, Others, Environment: both physical and learning, Self)
-Ask for help. I am available and happy to help. Scheduling an appointment will ensure I will be in.
-Be Patient. This applies to others, as well as yourself.
Tests & Quizzes
Quiz-Mid unit quizzes will be given on each unit. The mid unit quiz MUST be taken before the unit test. This is an opportunity to check and see where you are at with understanding the material. You may NOT retake quizzes.
Test-You will be given ample notice of test dates. Students who take the test on the test day, or before, are eligible to raise their score. Students will be required to have all homework for the unit turned in, and do test corrections in order to retake a test. If you miss the test date and take it late there will be no opportunity for retakes or to raise your score.
Homework & Warm-ups
Every night, with the exception of test days, an assignment will be given in order to allow you to practice and improve your understanding and competency. Homework is due the next class period after it is assigned. If you are absent, that assignment will be due the day you return to school.
Homework- will be worth 5 points graded on completion and effort. In other words, do the full assignment and show all your work! At the start of class have your homework on your desk as you work the warm up. I will circulate and score the assignment during warm up. Late homework will be accepted for 80% of earned score up until the unit test. After the unit test has been given, any homework turned in for a past unit will be accepted for 50% of earned score.
Warm-ups -are worth 5 points and will be given daily. Warm ups come directly from the previous night’s homework. Warm ups will begin as the start bell rings and will be timed anywhere from 5-10 minutes depending on the difficulty and number of problems. Warm-ups are graded on accuracy. Complete your homework, be on time to class and show all your work and you should do great on warm-ups. If you are absent the warm-up that was missed will be scored directly from the coordinating, turned in homework assignment.
Notes & Participation
Participation -Students will receive 40 points for classroom behavior each term. Come to class prepared, stay on task, and be involved and you will receive all your points. If a student is not meeting expectations, they will be warned. Each infraction will result in a point lost. Two lost points, in one day, will result in staying after class to visit with me and three lost points, in one day, will result in an email home.
Notes-You will be required to take guided notes (printed notes, provided by me, that you must fill in) daily in class. We do not have a textbook, so these notes become your textbook. On test days notes will be turned in, checked, and graded on completion. Once we have finished a unit please keep the notes in your notebook.
Advisory
We will be having advisory time. This will be in class, as determined by Mrs Pearson.
Absences and Tardies
I will follow Lone Peak High School’s attendance policy. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the notes and learn the material. I will be available to answer questions once you have made your own effort to learn the material. I do not reteach lessons. I also do not do time for attendance make up. You will have to do attendance school.
No Tollerance
Cheating will not be tolerated and will result in a score of Zero. Cell Phones are strictly prohibited on test days. If a cell phone is seen in class on test day that will be seen as cheating and will result in a score of zero. Make sure you keep it put away completely on test day, EVEN after you have finished your test.
